Surgical Activities
Perform surgical assistant in the procedures performed on insured and private patients as well as in social security patients, in accordance with their capabilities. At the end of the course should have performed all surgical procedures of the specialty under the supervision and guidance from tutors in charge of the specialty.
Academic Activities
- Comply with the program of seminars and classes following the apprenticeship program run by tutors;
- Will work in the academic program of residency of Traumatology and Orthopaedics in the specific area of the spine;
- Conduct a scientific paper for publication in journals in the column field every two months;
- Cooperate in preparing the papers to be presented in the congresses of Specialty, for the representation and dissemination of the service in major scientific events;
- The final papers must be delivered: one in the form of a monograph and the other as prospective or retrospective research on a theme of the program.

Optional Internship
The student may choose, in the second half of the year, by the completion of an internship with Dr. Helton Defino in the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto- SP and Hospital de Clinicas de Ribeirão Preto-SP, or with Dr. Emiliano Vialle at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná and Cajuru Hospital, lasting for 02 (two) months, as the agreement established between the Coordinating Area Column of the two institutions.
Conferences and Seminars
The student may attend different conferences and seminars to national and international area of Column Pathology, thus moving away from its activities, with prior approval of the course coordinator.
Certified will be provided by the secretary of the hospital, according to the criteria of continuing education and post-graduation course.

Surgeries Performed
At the end of the Course of Spinal Surgery, the student should be able to perform the following procedures as a surgeon or first assistant:
1. Removal of bone grafts from iliac or fibula;
2. Posterior arthrodesis in situ for scoliosis or kyphosis;
3. Posterior arthrodesis with instrumentation for scoliosis;
4. Arthrodesis and anterior release for scoliosis;
5. Anterior and posterior arthrodesis for the treatment of kyphosis;
6. Surgical treatment of congenital deformities;
7. Surgical treatment of spondylolisthesis:
- Posterior-lateral fusion
- Anterior arthrodesis - transabdominal
8. Surgical treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis;
9. Surgical treatment of cervical canal stenosis;
10. Cloward surgery for treatment of degenerative spine pathology;
11. Surgical treatment of lumbar disc herniation;
12. Anterior decompression and posterior fusion for cervical spine fractures;
13. Anterior decompression and posterior fusion for fractures of the thoracic and lumbar spine;
14. Surgical treatment of tumors of the vertebral column;
15. Surgical treatment of infectious diseases of the spine;
Financial Resources
The course does not generate any expenses to the University.

Observation
We stress that the teaching hours of faculty Professors and Coordinator of the Spine Surgery Course are part-load hours of each professor of medicine, and there is not therefore any additional expense to the institution applying, also, teachers / lecturers invited to attend the event.
